Almost 1 week post op

Thank you so much for the lifeline Sally! You’re right! He was on fentynl patches in the hospital and to downgrade to tramodol is quite a jump. He’s drinking and peeing; pooped yest (yAY) but is only eating some deli meat and can dog food. I free feed them; always have and they both graze throughout the day but he hasn’t even looked at his food bowl. I gave them each a whole can of dog food the other night and Oscar ate about 3/4 of it so gave 1/2 can last night and he ate the whole thing. thanks again for all the encouragement; you are indeed an angel!

I'm a retired nurse; plan on going back to work--need more money. Have many hobbies and interests: knitting, needlepoint, sewing, gardening, refinish wood, cross stitch. Addicted to Pinterest. Also part of an animal rescue group-animals that are in shelters where they are euthanized are transported here to Wisconsin or Minnesota. Have 2 english mastiff's. Oscar just turned 6 in march; already has hip dysplasia and arthritis and just started limping a couple of weeks ago. He has osteosarcoma in his right front leg. I was totally against amputation, thought it was cruel etc but it looks like it's the only way to take away his pain. The vet told me about this site and I need to decide tonight what to do.

  1. You’re mighty sweet Lora!

You are handling things really well! And I know as much as Gus loves Oscar, he’s just not able to do much to help relieve you!

Hey, just the fact that he’s eatng anything right now is good!
Hapy Hannah never misses a meal, but she just wouldn’t drink for at least the first week! Bizzare! I ended up putti g a scoop of ice cream in her water, or shredding up chicken and mixed it with water. Needless to say, she had little desire for just plain water after that!

Maybe you could boil sme chicken, hamurger and to off with a touch of cottage cheese. It sounds like he’s “grazing” just fine though…..as long as it’s the good stuff!

I hope you can find someone to nelp you post pictures of Oscar and Gus. It will be such a treat to see your boys!

Hoepfully, you’ll start t see some bits of his sparkle coming back in the next dayor so. It’ll just be little glimpses st first, then more and more and more!

Stay connected! I stayed…and still stay…connected and hold onto this site like it’s the very oxygen I breathe!

Look forward to your next update! You are a strong, brave soul! Good job…both of you…all hree of you:-) 🙂

  2. That is great to hear that he is eating something!!! Way to go Oscar!!! It will get better buddy!! doesn’t hurt to give a few little extra treats in between like what Sally said.. some hamburger, rice, etc… When my Franklin had his operation, in order to get him to eat I mixed up some gravey and poured it on his kibble.. he was a gravy mongrel!!! looooooooved his gravy!!

Another thing that I did for him was I changed his food to a higher calorie food. He was 14 1/2 and they tend to lose weight since they are more active getting around as a tripawd. They burn off more energy! Now.. he wasn’t overweight in the beginning, 50lb English Springer, but he dropped a bunch of weight in the first 3 months after his operation.

I do think that canned food is higher calories than kibble?? I have never used canned food.

Yes.. It would be great to see some pictures!! We love pictures.. and we love updates!!!!

Chin up… it will get better.. and easier!!

  3. Lora, isn’t Sally the BEST?! I agree.
