Oscar’s first day post op

The little medical student Katie faithfully calls me every morning and late afternoon. He needed quite a bit of help walking last night and he isn’t eating. Today he was walking a little better; she said he was having trouble on the tile floors in the hospital area but did much better when he was outside on the concrete. He’s still in intensive care and his pain is being well controlled.

He may be able to come home on saturday; I’m not in a big hurry for him to be discharged because he needs to be doing fairly well. I’m an old lady with a bad back and Oscar outweighs me. Usually a bag of deli meat is a great incentive

Till tomorrow; over and out

I'm a retired nurse; plan on going back to work--need more money. Have many hobbies and interests: knitting, needlepoint, sewing, gardening, refinish wood, cross stitch. Addicted to Pinterest. Also part of an animal rescue group-animals that are in shelters where they are euthanized are transported here to Wisconsin or Minnesota. Have 2 english mastiff's. Oscar just turned 6 in march; already has hip dysplasia and arthritis and just started limping a couple of weeks ago. He has osteosarcoma in his right front leg. I was totally against amputation, thought it was cruel etc but it looks like it's the only way to take away his pain. The vet told me about this site and I need to decide tonight what to do.

  1. That is great that the student calls you for updates… not only does it put your mind at ease.. it also shows that they care about the handsome man Oscar!!!

Glad to hear that everything has gone well.. :O)

This was a great site that helped me prepare for my Franklin’s surgery as well… from helpful tips of putting down rugs so that he would not slip, to raising his bowls, to helping me stay sane!

The good thing is that.. all of us here.. understand all the feelings you are going through.. and we allow you to vent, scream, cry and brag, brag, brag about your boys success!!!!

  2. Acually, I think it’s great that some vets keep the dogs a little longer..–especiallyif it’s just you doing the care giving! Rest up while you can:-) 🙂 I’m not gon a write mich right now as I’m heading for work shorty AND…..it seems like my replies from your previou post…or so e of them…are “still awaiting moderatin” and all I knowis that’s somethi g yo hve to “fix” on your end! And I dn’t even k ow HOW to do a vlog so you’re ahead of the curve n that e…..clearlh I can’t type either!

  3. Lora I think that if you’re confident in the care he’s getting there, then a couple more days till he’s getting around better will be a big benefit for both of you.

And those vet floors are so slippery, of course he’s not getting around well on them! Silly vets, I don’t know why they h ave those terrible floors. Be sure to add some throw rugs if you have any slipper spots in your home OK?

    Keep us posted.

  4. Lora – Sounds like Oscar is in good hands and it is very good they are keeping him for a few more days. I think it is easier for them to deal with the early stages of pain management than us pawrents. They don’t panic like we do!

Try and make sure you can have someone to help you when you bring him home. We don’t want you hurting yourself!

    Take care.
